According to a report by Reference News on March 27, the U.S. Army received its first "Black Hawk" helicopter equipped with an autonomous system, marking an important step in achieving the capability for switchable manned or unmanned flight.

The Army stated that it will begin rigorous testing of the helicopter's ability to operate with reduced crew or in autonomous flight.

According to a message released by the Army on the 20th, the helicopter utilizes autonomous software developed under a Department of Defense program, allowing it to fly with minimal human intervention.

The Army noted that the aircraft has been modified with a "fly-by-wire" control system, replacing mechanical systems with electronic systems to enable computer-assisted flight. This system allows the onboard computer to interpret pilot inputs and adjust flight controls in real-time, making the aircraft more stable and easier to maneuver under complex conditions.

The Army stated: "This system acts like a very advanced digital co-pilot, capable of managing the most complex flight tasks from takeoff to landing. This enables the helicopter to perform missions fully autonomously or under the remote supervision of personnel on the ground, providing unprecedented flexibility."
