Trump: Enough Patience to Reach a New Agreement with Iran, Otherwise War Will Break Out

On July 27, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Xu Jianmei) that U.S. President Trump stated on the 27th that he has enough patience and time to reach an agreement with Iran, but if a new ceasefire agreement cannot be reached, the U.S. will resume military strikes against Iran.

According to U.S. media reports, Trump said while on Air Force One heading to Michigan for an event that the U.S.-Iran negotiations are "going well," and "I think something is likely to happen. If it happens, that's great; if it doesn't, we will return to the state we were in two days ago." He also mentioned that the U.S. military currently has a sufficient stockpile of ammunition, with a large variety of different types of munitions available.

When discussing his upcoming talks on the 28th with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Trump said that the two have "some differences" on the issue of Iran, but overall they are "very close."

During an interview with the U.S. news site Axios on the same day, Trump said he decided to suspend strikes against Iran to give negotiations a chance, but if diplomatic efforts fail, he may order the resumption of larger-scale military actions. He also stated, "Time is running out. It's either a quick resolution or we simply walk away."

Trump explained that he suspended strikes against Iran at the request of a mediating country to give negotiations another chance, emphasizing that he believes Iran is willing to reach an agreement.

According to U.S. media reports, the relevant negotiations are currently mainly taking place between Iran and Oman, but Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, as well as Trump's son-in-law Kushner and U.S. special envoy Hook are also involved. The focus of the negotiations is to reach a new agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting discussions on a comprehensive nuclear agreement.
