Trump: If the US and Iran Reach an Agreement, He is "Very Likely" to Go to Islamabad

On April 19, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that U.S. President Trump said in an interview with the New York Post that he would "likely" go to Islamabad if the U.S. and Iran could reach an agreement in the capital of Pakistan.

When asked by reporters if he would go to Islamabad, Trump initially said, "I think I might say more about that later. We have to see how things go tomorrow." When pressed further, Trump stated that he would not make a decision until there was progress in the negotiations, but "it is very likely that I will go later."

According to a report by CNN on the 19th, citing Iranian sources, an Iranian delegation is set to arrive on the 21st, with members including Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly Speaker Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif.

Reports indicate that the U.S. and Iran are expected to jointly announce an extension of the ceasefire on the 22nd. If negotiations go smoothly, Trump will travel to Islamabad to hold talks with Iranian President Raisi, and the two may also sign the "Islamabad Declaration" aimed at achieving a ceasefire.

Trump had previously stated that he might go to Islamabad if a peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran is signed there.

Earlier on the 19th, Trump said that U.S. representatives would arrive in Islamabad on the evening of the 20th to participate in U.S.-Iran negotiations.
