Trump Issues New Threat to Iran Over Ceasefire

On March 30, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that U.S. President Trump stated that the United States is having serious discussions with a "newer, more rational regime," and if an agreement cannot be reached with Iran, the U.S. will "completely destroy" all of the country's power plants, oil wells, and Hark Island.

Trump wrote on social media: "The United States is having serious discussions with a new, more rational regime to end our military operations in Iran. Significant progress has been made, but if an agreement is not reached quickly for any reason (which is likely to be reached), and the Strait of Hormuz is not 'open for business' immediately, we will put an end to our pleasant 'stay' in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all their power plants, oil wells, and Hark Island (possibly including all desalination plants) — targets we had previously intentionally 'avoided'."

As of now, Iran has not responded to Trump's latest threats.

Recently, Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran regarding a ceasefire and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, with the related timelines constantly changing. On the 21st, he posted on social media, demanding that Iran open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, or he would destroy its various power stations. Two days later, he backtracked, stating that the U.S. and Iran had engaged in "very good and productive" dialogue over the past two days, and the U.S. would "delay by 5 days" airstrikes on Iranian power stations. On the 26th, he posted that Iran "better take negotiations seriously as soon as possible, or it will be too late." Later that evening, Trump again changed his stance, stating that at the "request of the Iranian government," he would delay the "destruction" of Iranian energy facilities by 10 days. By the 29th, in an interview with British media, Trump said he wanted to "seize" Iran's oil and did not rule out occupying the oil export hub of Hark Island.

Iran believes that while the U.S. is sending signals for negotiations, it is planning a ground attack, and the U.S. troop buildup in the Middle East supports this view. The Iranian military stated that it is ready for battle, saying, "The sharks of the Persian Gulf are waiting for U.S. soldiers."
