Trump: There is Currently "No Timeline" for Ending Conflict with Iran
On April 22, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (reporters Huang Qiang and Xu Jianmei) that U.S. President Trump said in an interview with Fox News Channel that there is currently "no timetable" for ending the conflict with Iran, and there is no need to rush.
Trump stated, "Some say I am eager to end this conflict for the midterm elections, but that is not true." He also mentioned that previous reports about a "3 to 5 day window" for extending the ceasefire are "not accurate," and asserted that there is "no time pressure" regarding the ceasefire.
Regarding the Iranian military firing on and detaining passing ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, "Those are not American ships." He also added that he will closely monitor the developments.
Earlier that day, Axios reported that Trump is willing to extend the ceasefire for another 3 to 5 days "to allow Iran to sort things out," but the ceasefire will not be extended indefinitely.
