Ukraine's Mobilization of Women to the Battlefield Sparks Controversy
According to a report by Reference News Network on April 3, the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" reported on April 1 that Ukraine is currently discussing the mandatory conscription of women into the armed forces.
Public advertisements related to this issue have appeared on the streets of several major cities. Local recruitment offices—reportedly due to operational errors—have begun registering Ukrainian women for military service and have placed some on wanted lists.
A series of evidence shows that such incidents have occurred dozens of times; in Kharkiv alone, the media has reported 30 controversial cases. It is claimed that this all stems from operational errors, as these Ukrainian women often only learn of their conscription when attempting to leave the country, being informed by police, or receiving fines.
Another noteworthy phenomenon is the appearance of related public billboards in the streets of several major Ukrainian cities. The large billboards read "Defend Ukraine—A Woman's Cause" and "Fight—A Woman's Mission."
The Ukrainian military's press office explained that this is not a forced mobilization, but rather an invitation for them to voluntarily join unmanned combat units.
Serhiy Kryvonos, former deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, emphasized that the combat capability of Ukrainian women is no less than that of men.
