Ukrainian Military Budget Shortage Causes Delay in Salary Payments
According to a report by Reference News Network on September 24, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported on September 21 that a commander of the Ukrainian assault troops stated that, due to a budget shortfall, some units of the Ukrainian military have begun to delay the payment of soldiers' salaries.
The commander commented to Ukrainian media, saying: “Yes, there is indeed some delay in salary payments. Bonuses and combat allowances are also overdue.”
Vadym Ivchenko, a member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, stated on the 16th that Ukraine does not have enough funds to pay military salaries, and the budget situation is facing a catastrophic crisis.
Another member, Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk, previously stated that Ukraine has suspended funding allocations in all areas except for social welfare payments, public sector salaries, and military expenditures.
The report pointed out that in recent years, Ukraine has been setting national budgets with record-high budget deficits and relying on Western aid to fill the gaps.
