U.S. Intelligence Claims Mujtaba is Hiding in a Secret Location

Reference News Network, May 27 report According to a report from CBS News on May 24, U.S. officials familiar with the situation said that intelligence indicates that Iran's Supreme Leader is actually hiding in an undisclosed location, with minimal contact with the outside world, and can only be reached through a complex network of messengers.

Communication within the Iranian government has always been difficult, which is a core reason why details of potential agreements between the U.S. and Iran are hard to finalize, as well as why past agreements have been difficult to reach.

Two informed U.S. officials said that when the U.S. sent proposed agreement details to Iran, the difficulty in contacting the Supreme Leader meant that the U.S. might have to wait a long time to receive a response.

A senior U.S. government official stated on the 24th that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has agreed to the framework of the current draft agreement, and U.S. President Trump posted on "Truth Social" that he expects a final result in the coming days.

Mojtaba was injured in the "Epic Fury" operation by the U.S. and Israel, and he is taking extreme measures to avoid being killed in an attack like his father, Ali Khamenei, who served as Iran's Supreme Leader from June 1989 to February 28, 2026. Since the war began, Mojtaba has not made a formal public appearance.

An informed U.S. official said that intelligence obtained from within the Iranian government has allowed the U.S. and Israel to locate and eliminate many senior Iranian leaders during the war.

Sources indicate that currently, most Iranian leaders are hiding in undisclosed locations, spending weeks in highly guarded bunkers, avoiding communication with each other unless absolutely necessary.

Mojtaba is taking the most cautious measures. According to intentional arrangements, even the highest officials in the Iranian government do not know exactly where Mojtaba is and have no way to contact him directly.

Instead, messages to Mojtaba are relayed through a messenger network created to obscure the Supreme Leader's location.

An informed U.S. official said, "That’s why some people say, 'The Supreme Leader has agreed to this framework,' or 'We are waiting for feedback on the final agreement points.' Every message Mojtaba receives is outdated, and his replies have a long delay."
