On March 23, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that the U.S. Marine Corps' 31st Expeditionary Unit and the amphibious warships it is aboard will arrive in the Middle East on the 27th. The report noted that this day coincides with the deadline set by U.S. President Trump for Iran to "open" the Strait of Hormuz.

The report cited two U.S. officials as saying that the USS New Orleans amphibious transport dock, the USS Tripoli amphibious assault ship, and the more than 2,000 members of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will enter the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command for operations in the Middle East on the 27th, but it will take a few more days to reach the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a report from the U.S. Naval Institute News on the 23rd, the USS Tripoli is currently docked at Diego Garcia in the central Indian Ocean.
