Kim Jong Un

Kim Jong Un is the Supreme Leader of North Korea, having assumed power in December 2011 after the death of his father, Kim Jong Il. He was groomed for leadership, being designated as 'the great successor' in 2010 and holding the rank of four-star general prior to his ascension. His regime has continued the totalitarian policies established by his family, characterized by suppression of dissent and a focus on advancing North Korea's nuclear weapons program, which has drawn significant international criticism. Kim Jong Un was born into a dynastic regime begun by his grandfather and continued by his father. He is the first leader of North Korea to have been born a North Korean citizen. He has been described as having strong political instincts and a personality similar to that of his father, Kim Jong Il.
