Earlier that day, the public relations department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement saying that the naval forces of the Revolutionary Guard intercepted two "violating" vessels on the night of the 12th, after which the U.S. military launched an attack on the coastal bases of the Iranian armed forces.
