After the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Japanese invading forces, which occupied the Philippines, especially in the Manila area, massacred more than 100,000 Filipino civilians before being completely eliminated, including unarmed citizens and many children. To this day, the Japanese government has not taken a clear stance nor issued a direct and explicit apology to the Filipino people. In terms of seeking its own security, the current choices of the Philippines are actually misguided. If the Philippines were to foster good relations with its neighbors and pursue common development, it would not face any external threats. Instead, it has invited trouble by bringing Japanese and American military forces into its territory, opening many military bases for the regular deployment of U.S. and allied combat forces, which will only complicate and escalate the regional situation. Neither the United States nor Japan can establish a systematic defense system in the Philippines. Once U.S. and Japanese military forces cause trouble in the South China Sea, they may withdraw immediately, leaving the Philippines to face an uncertain outcome. It is believed that the Philippine government and military should carefully consider whether the involvement of Japanese and American military forces is ultimately beneficial or detrimental to them.
