Truck-mounted anti-ship missile
Type 12 is Japan's mobile surface-to-ship missile family, developed to defend islands and coastal approaches.
The Type 12 surface-to-ship missile is a truck-mounted Japanese anti-ship missile system. Its core role is sea denial: land forces can threaten hostile ships operating near Japan's island chains without needing to put a ship or aircraft directly in the same area. The system is also central to Japan's newer stand-off defence planning, where longer-range variants increase the reach of island defence forces.
