Development Context

medium

Panther CLV is the British command-and-liaison variant of the Iveco LMV family.

The Panther Command and Liaison Vehicle was selected for the British Army's Future Command and Liaison Vehicle requirement. Although based on the Italian Iveco LMV lineage, Panther was adapted for UK command, liaison, and protected mobility needs. It was intended to replace softer vehicles in roles where crews needed more protection but not a heavy armored combat vehicle.

Technical Profile

medium

The vehicle provides protected 4x4 mobility, communications fit, and light defensive armament options.

Panther's design centers on protected mobility for small command and liaison teams. It uses a compact 4x4 armored layout with room for communications equipment and mission kit. Protection is much better than an unarmored utility vehicle, but it remains a light protected vehicle, so it depends on route planning and tactical discipline in high-threat environments.

Operational Role

medium

Panther supports command, liaison, patrol, and secure movement roles for British forces.

Operationally, Panther fills a practical niche: moving commanders, liaison teams, and small groups with more protection than a soft-skin truck. It is not meant to carry infantry into heavy combat. Its value lies in communications, mobility, and protected presence across rear-area and lower-intensity operational tasks.
