The ZBL-09, linked to the VN1 export designation, is a Chinese 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle family developed by NORINCO. It provides the PLA with a modern medium-weight wheeled platform for infantry, reconnaissance, fire support, and specialist variants.
The family combines high road speed, central tire inflation, amphibious capability in some variants, and a wide range of mission modules. This makes it more flexible than older 6x6 vehicles and better suited for rapid deployment across China's road networks.
ZBL-09/VN1 matters because it supports China's shift toward wheeled medium combined-arms formations and has export appeal. Its many derivatives make it a family system rather than a single APC model.
