Thor

Thor, or ICGV Thor/Thór, is an Icelandic Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel delivered in the early 2010s. Iceland does not maintain a conventional navy, so coast guard vessels perform the country's maritime security, search and rescue, fisheries enforcement, and emergency response missions. The ship was built to operate in harsh North Atlantic conditions rather than to fight as a corvette.

Technically, Thor is an offshore patrol and rescue vessel, not a missile corvette. Its design supports long-range patrols, towing, helicopter cooperation, pollution response, and operations in rough seas. It carries limited armament appropriate to coast guard duties, but its core capabilities are endurance, safety, and maritime support.

Operationally, Thor conducts search and rescue, fisheries inspection, law enforcement, towing assistance, and presence missions around Iceland. The vessel is important because Iceland's maritime zone is large and weather conditions are severe. Its value is measured in patrol coverage, rescue capacity, and support to civil authorities rather than high-end naval combat.
