Overview
RC-135
The Boeing RC-135 is a family of large reconnaissance aircraft built by Boeing and modified by a number of companies, including General Dynamics, Lockheed, LTV, E-Systems, L3Harris Technologies. It is used by the United States Air Force and Royal Air Force to produce theater and national level intelligence with near real-time on-scene collection, analysis and dissemination capabilities. The RC-135 has been extensively modified over the years, with various configurations such as the RC-135U Combat Sent and RC-135V/W Rivet Joint, each equipped with sophisticated intelligence gathering equipment. The aircraft is powered by four CFM International F108-CF-201 turbofan engines and has a range of 4,000 nautical miles. It supports theater and national level consumers with near real-time on-scene intelligence collection, analysis, and dissemination capabilities.

Signals intelligence reconnaissance aircraft

The RC-135 is a family of U.S. Air Force reconnaissance aircraft based on the C-135 airframe, with the RC-135V/W Rivet Joint as the best-known signals-intelligence variant. The aircraft supports theater and national consumers with near-real-time intelligence collection and dissemination.

Electronic-spectrum collection and analysis

Rivet Joint aircraft carry specialized sensor suites and a large mission crew able to detect, identify, geolocate, analyze, and forward signals intelligence. Their communications systems allow collected information to be distributed quickly to commanders, analysts, and other platforms.

Persistent strategic ISR presence

The RC-135 fleet has been continuously relevant because electromagnetic intelligence is central to modern military operations. Forward-deployed Rivet Joint missions help monitor adversary radars, communications, and force activity, making the aircraft a high-value asset in crises short of open conflict as well as wartime operations.
