Larger North Korean liquid-fueled ICBM
mediumHwasong-15 followed Hwasong-14 as a larger ICBM assessed to have greater reach and payload potential.
The Hwasong-15, also known in U.S. reporting as KN-22, represented North Korea's next major liquid-fueled ICBM step after Hwasong-14. Its 2017 test drew attention because analysts assessed that its range and payload margin were greater than earlier North Korean ICBM-class designs. It is therefore a key system for understanding the rapid escalation of DPRK strategic missile capability in the late 2010s.
