SPYDER provides mobile air defence against aircraft, helicopters, drones, and precision weapons. It adapts Python and Derby missile technology into a surface-launched system with launchers, radar, command posts, and network integration. Its relevance has increased as drones and cruise-missile-like threats have become more common.

A mobile surface-to-air system must detect targets, assign interceptors, and survive long enough to keep fighting. SPYDER's modular family allows different range and launcher configurations, making it suitable for point defence, manoeuvre-force cover, and national air-defence layers. It is most effective when integrated with other sensors and higher-level command systems.
