Italian tracked IFV to replace M113 variants
Dardo replaced older Italian armored carriers with a national tracked IFV.
Dardo was developed for the Italian Army as a tracked infantry fighting vehicle to replace older M113 and VCC-family vehicles in mechanized units. Iveco was responsible for hull and mobility elements, while Oto Melara handled weapons and fire-control integration. The programme gave Italy a national IFV aligned with late Cold War and post-Cold War mechanized infantry needs.
