Ivan Rogov is the lead name associated with the Soviet Project 1174 large landing ship class.
Ivan Rogov-class ships were Soviet large landing ships designed to move troops, vehicles, helicopters, and landing craft. The current database country prefix is China, but the platform itself belongs to Soviet/Russian amphibious warfare history and should be read in that context.
The class combined vehicle decks, landing craft support, and aviation facilities for over-the-shore operations.
Project 1174 was more capable than simple tank landing ships because it could support a broader amphibious package. Its well-deck and helicopter features gave Soviet naval infantry more flexible ship-to-shore options, although the class remained smaller and less aviation-centric than later large-deck amphibious assault ships.
The class is significant because it showed Soviet interest in more complex amphibious operations, but only a small number were built.
For readers, Ivan Rogov should be presented as a rare and specialized Soviet amphibious type. Its value lies in capability breadth, but the small fleet size and aging hulls limited long-term operational impact.
