WZ-19

The Harbin Z-19, also seen as WZ-19, was developed from the Z-9 helicopter lineage as a dedicated light scout and attack helicopter. It gave PLA Army Aviation a smaller companion to heavier attack helicopters, suited to reconnaissance, target designation and armed overwatch.

Z-19 uses a tandem cockpit, fenestron tail, mast or nose sensor options and stub wings for anti-tank missiles, rockets and gun pods depending on fit. Its design emphasizes reduced acoustic signature and reconnaissance performance rather than heavy armor or payload. It is lighter than the Z-10, making it useful for scout-attack pairing and distributed aviation units.

Operationally, Z-19 helicopters support scouting, armed reconnaissance, anti-armor overwatch and target handoff for ground forces. They are relevant to China's modernization of army aviation and combined-arms reconnaissance-strike loops. Their limitations are payload and survivability against dense air defenses, so tactics and sensor integration are central.
