DF-31AG is generally discussed as an improved road-mobile member of the DF-31 ICBM family. Its importance lies in survivability: a mobile launcher can disperse, hide, and complicate an adversary counterforce plan.

Solid-fuel missiles also reduce some launch-preparation burdens compared with older liquid-fuel systems. But mobility is not automatic survivability. It requires trained units, secure communications, protected movement, camouflage, logistics, and command discipline.
