Overview
Ambassador
The Ambassador MK III, or Ezzat class, is a series of small fast missile craft built by VT Halter Marine for the Egyptian Navy, with four ships initially planned at a budget of $1.290 billion. Designed for stealth and upgraded with Lockheed Martin's assistance, these vessels modernize Egypt's naval capabilities, replacing older missile boats last acquired in 1982, with the first ship delivered in November 2013 and the last two completed by June 2015.

Research Notes

Egyptian fast missile craft renewal

The Ambassador Mk III, or Ezzat class, was built in the United States to modernize Egypt's missile-boat force.

The Ambassador Mk III program gave Egypt a new generation of fast missile craft built by VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula. Naval Technology reported the US Navy launch of the first Egyptian Fast Missile Craft and described the 63-meter high-speed craft's major weapons. The class replaced older missile boats with a more modern platform designed for coastal defense, patrol, and rapid anti-surface strike.

Compact ship with heavy missile armament

The design packs Harpoon missiles, RAM air defense, a 76 mm gun, and modern sensors into a small fast hull.

Ambassador-class craft are small, but their combat load is substantial. Public profiles describe Harpoon Block II anti-ship missiles, a 76 mm Super Rapid gun, Rolling Airframe Missile self-defense, and modern command and sensor equipment. The design is therefore closer to a compact missile corvette than a simple patrol boat, emphasizing survivability, reduced signatures, and a strong first-salvo capability in coastal waters.

Coastal deterrence in Egyptian waters

The class strengthens Egypt's ability to patrol and defend approaches to key maritime infrastructure.

In service, the Ambassador Mk III supports Egyptian coastal defense, surveillance, and fast reaction missions. Its relevance is tied to geography: Egypt must protect approaches to the Mediterranean coast, Red Sea routes, and the Suez Canal. Missile craft are useful in that setting because they can complicate an adversary's surface operations while remaining cheaper and more numerous than large frigates or destroyers.
