The EC725 Caracal, now H225M, was developed from the Super Puma/Cougar family after French requirements for a long-range combat search and rescue and tactical transport helicopter. It added modern avionics, more powerful systems, and military mission equipment to a proven medium-heavy helicopter line.
The Caracal uses a five-blade main rotor, twin engines, glass cockpit, aerial-refueling options on some versions, defensive aids, hoist equipment, and troop or rescue cabin layouts. That makes it useful for special operations support, personnel recovery, tactical transport, and maritime or overland missions depending on operator.
The type has been used by France and export customers for demanding military transport and rescue tasks. Its significance is operational flexibility: it can move troops, recover personnel, and operate over long distances where lighter utility helicopters lack range or payload.
