Research Notes

Compact evolution of the original Uzi

medium

The Mini-Uzi shortened the classic Uzi while retaining more controllability than the later Micro-Uzi.

The Mini-Uzi was developed as a more compact version of the original Israeli Uzi submachine gun. It responded to demand for a shorter weapon for security, vehicle, and special operations use while preserving more practical handling than an ultra-compact machine pistol. The Mini-Uzi therefore sits between the full-sized Uzi and Micro-Uzi in the family, balancing compactness with usable shoulder-fired control.

Shortened 9 mm submachine gun with folding stock

medium

The Mini-Uzi keeps the Uzi layout but reduces length and weight for easier carry in close spaces.

Technically, the Mini-Uzi retains the key family traits: magazine in the pistol grip, compact receiver layout, and 9 mm chambering. Its shorter barrel and receiver reduce size, while a folding stock helps it remain controllable compared with smaller machine-pistol derivatives. The reduced dimensions improve carry and maneuverability, but range and controllability are still less than a full-size submachine gun.

Security and special-use compact SMG

medium

The Mini-Uzi served users who wanted Uzi reliability in a smaller package without going to the Micro-Uzi extreme.

Operationally, the Mini-Uzi is suited to close protection, police tactical teams, vehicle crews, and specialized military users. It offers compact firepower for short-range environments, while remaining more manageable than the smallest automatic pistols. Its importance is as a middle member of the Uzi family: compact enough for security roles, but still recognizable as a shoulder-fired submachine gun.
