Overview
Kh-25MP & Kh-27PS
The AS-12 Kegler is a family of Soviet-Russian air-to-surface missiles, including the Kh-25MP and Kh-27PS, designed for suppression of enemy air defenses and electronic warfare. The Kh-25MP targets and destroys radar systems using a passive radar seeker, while the Kh-27PS jams enemy radar operations with electronic countermeasures; both have a range of up to 40 kilometers and are rocket-powered with high-explosive warheads.

Anti-radiation branch of the Kh-25 lineage

medium

Kh-25MP and Kh-27PS are associated with attacks on radar emitters and air-defense systems.

Kh-25MP and Kh-27PS belong to the Soviet/Russian anti-radiation missile lineage. GlobalSecurity notes that the Kh-25MP anti-radar missile is similar in appearance to the Kh-27PS, placing both in the broader Kh-25/Kegler discussion. Their role is suppression or destruction of enemy radars, so the page should be read as an anti-radiation missile entry.

Passive radar-homing mission

medium

The key design feature is guidance toward hostile radar emissions rather than visually designated targets.

Anti-radiation missiles use passive seekers to home on radar emitters. That creates a tactical problem for air-defense crews: keep radars active and risk attack, or shut down and lose coverage. Kh-25MP/Kh-27PS were built around this radar-suppression logic rather than ordinary blast-fragmentation attacks on visible targets.

SEAD weapon with behavior-shaping effects

medium

These missiles can matter even when they do not destroy a radar, because they pressure radar operators.

The operational value of anti-radiation missiles is partly psychological and doctrinal. They can force air-defense systems to reduce emissions, relocate, or operate intermittently, creating gaps for strike aircraft. Their limits include seeker coverage, range, countermeasures, and the enemy's ability to use decoys or emission-control tactics.
