Rotary-Wing Turkish Loitering Munition

medium

STM Kargu is a Turkish rotary-wing loitering munition developed by STM for close-range reconnaissance and attack. Unlike fixed-wing loitering munitions, Kargu uses a quadrotor layout that allows vertical takeoff, hovering, and precise maneuver around complex terrain. It has been marketed for asymmetric warfare, counterterror, and tactical strike missions.

Quadrotor Attack Drone with Operator Control

medium

Kargu combines a small rotary-wing UAV, ground control unit, onboard cameras, and different munition options. STM material emphasizes autonomous navigation, day/night operation, target tracking, and mission abort functions, while keeping a human operator in the engagement loop. The quadrotor layout is slower and shorter ranged than fixed-wing munitions but better for urban terrain, hovering, and close inspection.

Tactical Attack, Swarm Experiments, and Export Interest

medium

Operationally, Kargu is used for close tactical strike against personnel, light vehicles, and exposed equipment. Its small size allows units to deploy it from field positions without heavy launch equipment. STM has also demonstrated or marketed swarm and RF-seeker developments, showing the system's growth path from single munition to networked small-drone attack. Electronic warfare, armor, and weather remain practical constraints.
