FGM-172 SRAW

The FGM-172 SRAW, also known as Predator SRAW, was a lightweight short-range missile developed for U.S. Marine Corps infantry. It was designed as a disposable guided weapon that could defeat armored vehicles at ranges too short for heavier anti-tank missile teams.

The original SRAW used a fly-over, shoot-down attack concept with sensors to trigger a downward-firing warhead over the target. This gave a single marine a more advanced close-range anti-armor capability than an unguided rocket, while avoiding the sustained tracking burden of wire-guided missiles.

Operational requirements after early 2000s combat shifted part of the remaining inventory toward the SRAW-MPV multipurpose configuration for bunkers and urban targets. That change shows how infantry missile programs can be redirected by actual battlefield demand.
