A Suspect in the Attack on the Russian General Has Dual Russian-Ukrainian Citizenship
Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, February 8 (Reporter Chen Chang) According to a report by TASS on the 8th, a suspect in the attack on Russian Major General Vladimir Alekseyev has dual citizenship of Russia and Ukraine.
The report cites information provided by Russian law enforcement agencies, stating that the suspect was born in 1960, resides permanently in Ukraine, and was arrested in the UAE after the attack. This individual is acquainted with another suspect who was arrested in Moscow, and the two have multiple remittance records between 2005 and 2020. The third suspect is a woman who rented an apartment in the building where Alekseyev lived; she fled to Ukraine after the incident and will be placed on the international wanted list.
The report states that all three suspects have been criminally charged, with the first two facing prosecution and potentially being sentenced to life imprisonment.
On the 8th, the chairman of the Just Russia party, Mironov, told the media that the attack on Alekseyev was a "reaction from Ukrainian terrorists and their Western backers to the negotiations regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict," adding that "they do not wish to resolve the conflict peacefully."
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation stated on the 6th that Alekseyev was shot in Moscow that day. Russian media reported that Alekseyev successfully underwent surgery and is not in life-threatening condition. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba denied any connection between Ukraine and the attack on the Russian major general during an interview with foreign media on the 6th.
