Aestheticians: Iran Still Has a Large Number of Fast Attack Boats
On April 12, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington (Reporter Yan Liang) that the Wall Street Journal quoted Farzin Nadimi, a scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, saying that despite the U.S. claiming to have dealt a devastating blow to the Iranian Navy, more than 60% of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' fast attack boats remain intact.
The report stated that, unlike the Iranian regular navy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has an independent fleet primarily composed of smaller, more agile vessels. These smaller vessels are suitable for operating in narrow waters and are harder to detect by satellites than larger ships.
The U.S. Central Command stated that as of April 6, over 155 Iranian vessels had been sunk, most of which belong to Iran's regular navy.
Former British naval officer Chris Lang believes that Iran may have hidden hundreds of small attack boats along its rugged coastline.
Retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Robert Howard stated, "Iran has lost 80% to 90% of its naval combat capability, but the last 10% is the hardest to deal with."
David DeRoche, a former U.S. Defense Department official for Gulf policy, stated that Iran's "asymmetric strategy is working."
