Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, July 10 - U.S. media reported on the 9th that the U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Boxer had to interrupt its planned reinforcement mission due to engine failure after the outbreak of hostilities in Iran, and diverted to the Diego Garcia base, located in the central Indian Ocean, for repairs.

The USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group set sail from San Diego, California, in mid-March, carrying the U.S. Marine Corps' 11th Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East. According to reports from U.S. media citing three informed sources, the mission of the USS Boxer was to reinforce U.S. military operations against Iran, but the main circulation pump for the engine cooling system failed during the voyage, forcing the USS Boxer to divert to the military base on Diego Garcia for parts replacement and repairs.

After repairs were completed, the USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group was redirected to the Strait of Malacca to carry out maritime interception tasks related to Iran, and was later redeployed to the Middle East.

In March of this year, the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier also experienced a fire during military operations against Iran, with a fire breaking out in the ship's laundry room, resulting in injuries to three sailors, and over 200 sailors receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.
