Chinese Air Force's Various Main Battle Aircraft Make Their Debut at the Egypt Air Show

On September 8, the second Egypt International Airshow officially opened at Alamein International Airport. At the invitation of the Egyptian military, the Chinese Air Force sent various active main battle equipment for static display, including the KJ-500 early warning aircraft, Y-20A tanker, J-16 fighter jet, and Z-20K helicopter. This marks the second appearance of the Chinese Air Force at the Egypt Airshow and the first public display of these four aircraft types at an overseas airshow.

Reporter Yan Chao: Here is the static display area of the Egypt Airshow, where the Chinese Air Force's J-16, Y-20A, KJ-500, and Z-20K aircraft are lined up behind me. From early warning command, air superiority strikes to long-range refueling and battlefield search and rescue, these four types of equipment form a comprehensive aerial combat system.

The four types of equipment on display are all independently developed by our country and are a hallmark achievement of the strategic transformation of the People's Air Force.

The J-16 is a twin-seat, heavy, multi-role fighter jet, primarily tasked with gaining air superiority and conducting ground attacks. It is the main combat aircraft for our air force's offensive and air defense operations.

Air Force Unit Jiao Lianjian: This time, we flew our fighter jets across multiple countries and regions, covering thousands of kilometers to reach Egypt. The entire process was smooth and successful, fully testing the reliability of our domestically produced fighter jets and our unit's long-range delivery capabilities. I feel incredibly proud to stand at an airshow in Africa, showcasing China's independently developed advanced fighter jets to the world. We also hope to enhance understanding and deepen mutual trust with air forces from various countries through this international exchange platform.

The KJ-500 early warning aircraft is a core node of our military's air-based network information system, capable of executing early warning detection, command control, and cross-platform joint strikes with air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons in all domains, all weather, and complex electromagnetic environments.

The Z-20 is a medium twin-engine multi-role helicopter that can perform various tasks such as air assault and transport under complex weather conditions, with full-domain and all-time operational capabilities.

The Y-20A tanker features long range, high speed, large fuel transfer capacity, and high compatibility, significantly enhancing the long-range mobility and sustained combat capabilities of the air force, serving as a "force multiplier" for the People's Air Force's long-range operations.

Air Force Unit Zhang Hang: Since the Y-20A was put into service, we have operated in high-altitude areas and far seas, participating in major training missions multiple times. In a recent joint training with the Egyptian Air Force, we completed day and night refueling training with various aircraft, further validating the equipment's general adaptability. This Egypt Airshow marks the first time the Y-20A has gone abroad for exhibition, and many foreign colleagues and reporters gathered around our refueling equipment to observe and ask questions, which also reflects the leap in the Chinese Air Force's long-range strategic delivery capabilities.

It is understood that the Egypt International Airshow is one of the largest professional aerospace defense exhibitions in Africa and the Middle East. This year's airshow lasts for three days and features aerospace companies and military representatives from dozens of countries around the world, covering flight demonstrations, static displays, professional forums, and other activities, showcasing the latest technological achievements in aerospace, defense equipment, and drones.

Previously, the air forces of China and Egypt had just concluded the "Civilization Eagle-2026" joint training, and the participating formation of the Chinese Air Force directly transitioned to participate in this airshow, achieving a seamless connection between joint training and exhibition.

Air Force Unit Hu Min: From joint training to co-exhibiting, the cooperation between the air forces of China and Egypt continues to deepen and solidify. We are willing to take this airshow as an opportunity to strengthen communication and exchange with air forces from around the world, share construction experiences, and deepen practical cooperation.
