Chinese firm claims mass production of new interceptor drone
Chinese company Shengying Technology says it has introduced a new interceptor drone called the H-07, a high-speed platform designed to shoot down other drones in the final seconds before impact.
Interceptor drones have become one of the fastest-growing categories in air defense over the past two years, driven largely by the need to counter cheap, mass-produced attack drones like Russia’s Iranian-designed Shahed loitering munitions. Traditional air defense missiles, which can cost hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars each, are often too expensive to use against drones that cost a few thousand dollars to build. Interceptor drones aim to close that cost gap by using a cheap aircraft to physically ram or disable another drone in flight.
Ukraine has led much of this development under wartime pressure. Wild Hornets, one of Ukraine’s largest drone manufacturers, produces roughly 10,000 drones a month, including its Sting interceptor, which the company says has begun shooting down faster, jet-powered variants of the Shahed that were previously considered too fast for propeller-driven interceptors to catch. Ukraine has also fielded the JEDI Shahed Hunter, described as the first pilotless interceptor drone, which receives target data directly from radar stations and can detect and engage threats on its own. Other Ukrainian systems in service include the Baton family of interceptors and the jet-powered Alexa Spatium, launched from a mobile catapult.
The approach has spread beyond Ukraine. Japan’s defense procurement agency selected Terra Drone Corporation’s Terra B1 interceptor for mass production this year after it beat three competing designs in evaluation testing, part of a program aimed specifically at countering long-range, one-way attack drones. In the United States, systems like the foldable SPART interceptor, developed by Ukrainian engineer Yehor Balytskyi’s company Thermopylae Aerospace, have been demonstrated to the U.S. Air Force as a lower-cost alternative to missile-based defenses.
Shengying Technology’s H-07 claims to fit into this same category. According to the company, the drone has entered mass production, though The Defence Blog has not been able to independently confirm this, or the drone’s specifications, deployment, or testing status. No government, military, or third-party source has verified any of the company’s claims.
The H-07 uses a 7-inch airframe. Most first-person-view style interceptor drones use a smaller 5-inch size, and Shengying Technology says the larger frame lets the H-07 reach a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph), with a cruising speed between 100 and 200 km/h (62 to 124 mph). That would put it in a similar speed range to Ukraine’s SPART interceptor, which the manufacturer has said reaches up to 350 km/h (217 mph).
The company lists a flight range of 15 km (9.3 miles) and a battery life of up to 10 minutes. It puts the drone’s operating altitude between 50 and 2,000 meters (164 to 6,562 feet).
Shengying Technology says the H-07 is built to detect, track, and intercept other drones, including fixed-wing, delta-wing, and multirotor types. The system relies on an onboard AI module based on a YOLO tracking algorithm, a common computer-vision method for real-time object detection. The company says it can lock onto targets from 300 meters (984 feet) away when firing from the ground, and from 200 meters (656 feet) when intercepting another drone in flight.
The drone can launch from the ground or from a launcher, according to the company, and carries a payload of up to 300 grams (0.66 pounds). Its battery is fixed inside the airframe rather than removable, with a direct plug-in charging dock meant to speed up turnaround between flights. Shengying Technology says the H-07 uses three separate cooling methods during high-speed flight: fan cooling for the electronic speed controller, dedicated ventilation openings, and a cooling system for the video transmitter.
The company says the drone’s injection-molded housing and manufacturing tooling are complete and that the platform is ready for large-scale production. It has not disclosed pricing, a customer base, or any confirmed sale, test, or deployment of the H-07 with a military or government buyer.
