Commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy: We Monitor Enemy Movements Day and Night

[Global Times Special Correspondent in the U.S. Li Zhi, Global Times Special Correspondent Yue Chao] According to a report by Reuters on the 12th, U.S. President Trump held a closed-door meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House on the 11th, lasting three hours. This was their seventh meeting since Trump returned to the White House last year. Despite high public interest, the two sides did not reach a "final" agreement on how to advance relations with Iran, and no joint press conference was held after the talks, with each side only issuing brief statements.

On the 12th, Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu issued a warning regarding U.S.-Iran relations and nuclear negotiations. He stated that if the scope of U.S.-Iran negotiations expands from the nuclear agreement to the field of ballistic missiles, the consequences would be "nothing short of triggering another war." Cavusoglu also confirmed that both sides showed some flexibility during recent U.S.-Iran contacts mediated by Oman. He believes that "neither side currently intends to provoke a full-scale war." The Iranian Tasnim News Agency reported that Cavusoglu told the Financial Times that Washington seems willing to accept Iran conducting a certain level of uranium enrichment activities.

According to a report by the Iranian Mehr News Agency on the 12th, the commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy mentioned the country's deterrent capabilities, stating: "We monitor the enemy's movements day and night; what they fear most is the Iranian people."

After the meeting with Netanyahu, Trump emphasized on social media that he had made it clear to Netanyahu that the U.S. would continue negotiations with him regarding Iran's nuclear program. Trump also warned that if Iran refuses to negotiate again, the U.S. would take military action. 

Netanyahu, in a statement, indicated that he and Trump discussed negotiations with Iran, the situation in Gaza, and the overall developments in the Middle East. He particularly emphasized that Israel's security needs must be guaranteed in any agreement with Iran. Reports indicate that on the 11th, Netanyahu did not enter the White House through the West Wing entrance crowded with reporters but chose the southern entrance instead. Israeli Channel 12 cited U.S. and Israeli officials as saying that the meeting aimed to formulate a joint action plan "in case negotiations with Iran break down." Senior U.S. officials privately believe that even if limited to nuclear issues, the likelihood of reaching an agreement with Iran is very low. If military action ultimately becomes necessary, coordinated action between the U.S. and Israel will be more feasible.
