Decision of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Organization to Strengthen Collective Security
Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, April 20 - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly held a council meeting in Moscow on the 20th to discuss how to respond to various challenges threatening the security of member states and decided to continue strengthening collective security. The council issued a statement emphasizing that joint legislative work in defense, military construction, security, and combating terrorism and extremism is crucial for the member states of the organization.
According to the website of the Russian newspaper, the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas stated at the meeting that there is a danger of the conflict zone in the Middle East expanding, and unstable hotspots are approaching CSTO member states, which is deeply concerning. The CSTO urgently needs to strengthen its effectiveness and capabilities.
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Vyacheslav Volodin, stated that against the backdrop of tense geopolitical situations, enhancing the collective interests of CSTO member states on the international stage is a priority. To this end, the assembly's "2026-2030 Plan" proposes the development of 45 model laws, some of which aim to enhance the military capabilities of the CSTO, focusing on improving legislation in crisis response.
Additionally, according to TASS, the Chairman of the lower house of the Kazakhstan Parliament, Nurlan Zhaylauov, stated that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East could undermine the stability and security of the surrounding regions, including CSTO member states. In this context, it is essential to continuously strengthen the comprehensive capabilities of the CSTO. The Chairman of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Nurlan Mamataliev, expressed that Kyrgyzstan is willing to deepen cooperation with other CSTO member states in military technology, information, and cultural fields.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, with Russia serving as the rotating presidency.
