Enabling the digital battlespace: EDGE launches KATIM Digitised Soldier

Report Content

Modern warfare is changing character. Missions are no longer won through isolated platforms, but by the ability to effectively integrate personnel, communications, and command networks into a unified operational architecture. Operational success depends on efficient data sharing, enhanced visibility, and speed of command.

In this new and evolving environment, EDGE Group has unveiled the KATIM Digitised Soldier (KDS), an advanced operational system purpose-built to deliver high-performance connectivity, blue force tracking, and shared situational awareness among deployed soldiers and frontline commanders. Its mission is clear: to empower armed forces to sense, decide, and act faster than their adversaries.

KDS places the soldier, the most critical asset, at the centre of the network architecture. The system combines command-and-control relay with biometric and positional monitoring in a lightweight, field-deployable ecosystem, providing continuous visibility over the battlespace environment. Modular and interoperable, KDS ensures faster decision-making and enhanced survivability during critical operations.

At the tactical layer, combatants engage with KDS through tactical wearables engineered for seamless and low-latency connectivity. At the coordination level, the KATIM Tactical Terminal (KTT) integrates critical data streams, maintaining secure and reliable communications in operational environments. The KATIM Wrist Terminal (KWT) supports the soldiers’ mission by integrating diverse inputs, navigation data, situational awareness tools, and command communications into a single, intuitive interface. Designed for frontline use, the KWT enables dismounted soldiers to access and act on information in real-time.

KDS is developed by KATIM, EDGE Group’s industry-leading entity for data protection and secure communications. Based in Abu Dhabi as part of the Space and Cyber Technologies cluster, KATIM draws on extensive expertise in networked environments to deliver ultra-secure solutions to governments and armed forces worldwide.
