Recently, after the Yemeni government announced the launch of a large-scale military operation, the situation in the relevant areas suddenly escalated. The Yemeni government forces not only engaged in a battle for control with the Houthi armed group in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait but also launched offensives in Red Sea port cities and announced on the 5th the recovery of the strategic location of Mocha. In addition, the Saudi-led coalition, after announcing its participation in the "Yemen Dawn" military operation, continued to strike Houthi-related military targets. The Houthis retaliated on the 5th with three rounds of military actions against Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, on the 5th, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey held an emergency meeting of the "Mecca Defense Alliance" Strategic Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh, announcing the activation of a collective defense mechanism and agreeing to deploy military forces in Saudi Arabia.

Launching a "strategic offensive" against Sanaa

The Yemeni government forces stated on October 5 local time that after intense fighting, they had recovered the Red Sea port city of Mocha in Taiz province from the Houthi armed group.

Military sources indicated that both sides engaged in combat in multiple areas around Mocha, resulting in casualties among Houthi personnel, with government forces also capturing several individuals, while others fled. The government forces are still pursuing Houthi personnel and conducting sweeps in the recovered areas to ensure local security.

The Yemeni government forces had previously stated that they had launched a "strategic offensive" against the Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa.

As for the above claims, the Houthi armed group has not yet responded.

Earlier on the 5th, the Yemeni government forces stated that they were advancing from multiple directions towards the Zubab area in southwestern Taiz province, recovering multiple positions. The Yemeni government forces claimed that they had taken control of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, a vital international shipping route.

However, the Houthi armed group stated that the battle for control of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait was still ongoing. The day before, Yemeni officials indicated that the Houthis controlled several important areas in Taiz province, cutting off the main route from Taiz to the Yemeni government's temporary base in the southern port city of Aden.

Saudi-led coalition announces participation in military operations

Conflicts with the Houthi armed group continue

On the 5th, Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led multinational coalition, announced on social media that 100 coalition fighter jets participated in the "Yemen Dawn" military operation early that morning, destroying 324 high-value targets.

Al-Maliki stated that the coalition naval forces conducted military operations in Yemen's Hodeidah province that day, targeting Houthi-related military objectives. The operations destroyed weapon depots, facilities storing explosive-laden vessels, and naval mines, and thwarted a plan to launch an attack on the southern waterway of the Red Sea.

The Houthi armed group claims to have launched three rounds of strikes against Saudi Arabia

On the same day, the Houthi armed group issued a statement claiming that in response to Saudi attacks on Yemen over the past 24 hours, they conducted three rounds of military operations, using a large number of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones to strike King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the Saudi Aramco refinery in the coastal city of Rabigh, as well as Abha Airport, Khamis Mushait base, and several sensitive targets in Asir province and Najran and Jizan provinces.

The statement noted that in the past 24 hours, Saudi Arabia had launched 60 airstrikes and missile attacks on Yemen's capital Sanaa and several provinces including Al-Jawf, Taiz, Hodeidah, Saada, and Marib, resulting in civilian casualties, including women and children. Since the escalation of the situation in early September, the total number of airstrikes and missile attacks launched by Saudi Arabia has reached 1,576.

Saudi, Turkey, and Pakistan agree to activate collective defense mechanism

Deploying military forces in Saudi Arabia

On October 5 local time, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey held an emergency meeting of the "Mecca Defense Alliance" Strategic Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh and issued a joint statement announcing the activation of a collective defense mechanism and agreeing to deploy military forces in Saudi Arabia.

The statement announced that the committee decided to immediately promote the implementation of collective defense commitments and take necessary measures to ensure that the agreed military forces and related capabilities can be rapidly deployed in Saudi Arabia in accordance with approved arrangements and the domestic laws of each member state. The statement emphasized that this move aims to enhance readiness levels, military integration, and the ability of the three parties to jointly respond to and contain threats.

The three countries strongly condemned attempts to target Mecca and Medina, as well as ongoing attacks against Saudi cities, civilian, and economic facilities, emphasizing their firm opposition to any acts that infringe upon or threaten Saudi security and territorial integrity.

On August 7, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed the "Mecca Joint Defense Agreement." The agreement stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three. On September 25, military leaders from the three countries met in Riyadh to condemn the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
