Finland to acquire over 100 Patria TREMOS mortar systems
Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces have agreed on the serial procurement of Patria TREMOS mortar system, covering over 100 systems with an option for hundreds more. The deliveries will commence this year and are scheduled to continue through 2028.
Developed in close cooperation with the Finnish Army and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, Patria TREMOS significantly enhances the mobility and operational effectiveness of heavy mortars. Following the delivery of a pre-series batch to the Finnish Army in 2025, Patria and the Finnish Defence Forces have now agreed on the serial procurement of the system.
“Patria TREMOS is a unique and innovative mortar concept developed to meet the mobility requirements of modern warfare. We expect strong international market potential for the system and are proud to have reached this milestone together with the Finnish Defence Forces, whose collaboration has been excellent throughout the development process. Having Finland as the launch customer is an important milestone for our weapon system business and creates a strong basis for future success,” says Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems business area.
Patria TREMOS is a mobile version of the traditional mortar system. Its advanced recoil technology allows integration with a wide range of vehicle platforms while delivering improved mobility, firepower and accuracy. The system can be equipped with in-service barrels and breeches, allowing the use of existing ammunition and ballistic tables, which simplifies training, operation and logistics.
As a Finnish-developed and manufactured solution, it supports national security of supply and helps ensure the availability of critical defence capabilities in Finland. This serial procurement will be manufactured in Patria’s production facilities in Finland, utilising also the network including dozens of suppliers. The employment effect of the agreement is estimated to be around 130 person-years of work.
