On March 31, the Changying-8 large transport drone successfully completed its maiden flight, becoming the largest cargo drone to have its first flight globally to date.

From the "Jiutian Cangqiong," which can command drone swarms, to the "Changying-8," which has a payload capacity of 3.5 tons, China's unmanned aerial capabilities are continuously strengthening. Let's take a look at the four "aerial strongmen."

"Aerial Aircraft Carrier" Jiutian Cangqiong

On December 11, 2025, the "Jiutian Cangqiong" unmanned aviation general platform successfully made its maiden flight in Shaanxi.

As a large general-purpose unmanned aerial platform independently innovated by China, it not only has a massive size but can also serve as an "aerial aircraft carrier" to command drone swarms and carry heavy weapons for precise strikes, truly possessing the deterrent capability of "descending from the sky."

The "Jiutian Cangqiong" unmanned aviation general platform is built around the "Jiutian" flexible configuration of heavy unmanned systems. With a payload capacity of 6 tons and a power supply of 90 kilowatts, it can carry various large specialized equipment, providing new space for multiple application scenarios.

As a new generation of large general-purpose drones, flying far and high is a basic capability of the "Jiutian," with a flight time of 12 hours and a range of 7000 kilometers, significantly enhancing the operational limits of the drone.

Its "aircraft platform + mission cabin" design configuration, through standardized interfaces and modular mission cabin architecture, allows for flexible configuration of mission cabins, achieving rapid and seamless transitions across multiple scenarios and fields, easily meeting the diverse and immediate needs of logistics transportation, forest fire prevention, emergency rescue, weather intervention, communication relay, and air transport airdrop, greatly improving operational efficiency and reducing costs, truly realizing "one investment, multiple scenario reuse," becoming a veritable "aerial heavy truck."

Aerial "Cargo Expert" Tianma-1000

On January 11, the "Tianma-1000" unmanned transport aircraft successfully made its maiden flight. The "Tianma-1000" integrates logistics transportation, emergency rescue, and material delivery into one, being the first domestic model to achieve "adaptation to complex plateau terrain, ultra-short takeoff and landing, and rapid switching between cargo/airdrop dual modes."

It has a ceiling of 8000 meters, a takeoff and landing distance of less than 200 meters, a maximum range of 1800 kilometers, and a maximum payload of 1 ton. This model can also quickly switch through a modular cargo cabin, flexibly transforming into a material delivery platform to meet diverse task requirements.

In the future, when facing remote area supply, emergency rescue, and urgent material transport scenarios, the "Tianma-1000" will be able to achieve single-flight, large-scale delivery, meeting the critical material needs for food, medicine, equipment, etc., over several days, solving the transportation difficulties of materials in special regions.

Opening New Tracks in Hybrid Power with Rainbow YH-1000S

On February 1, the world's first hybrid power unmanned transport aircraft "Rainbow YH-1000S" successfully made its maiden flight. It is another new model rapidly iterated to meet global market customer demands following the successful maiden flight of the Rainbow YH-1000 unmanned transport aircraft in May 2025.

The Rainbow YH-1000S's maiden flight was equipped with a high-power hybrid powertrain jointly developed with leading new energy vehicle companies, significantly shortening takeoff and landing distances, enhancing payload and range, and successfully completing aerial flight performance verification. This represents an important innovative exploration of the cross-industry integration of core technologies between the unmanned aerial vehicle industry and the automotive industry in China, greatly reducing the research and manufacturing costs of drones through deep sharing of supply chain resources and modular production.

In the future, the Rainbow YH-1000S model can play an important role in international logistics transportation, emergency rescue and disaster reduction, artificial weather modification, marine monitoring, and maritime supervision.

Known as the "Unmanned Aerial Heavy Truck," the Changying-8

The Changying-8, which made its maiden flight on March 31, is hailed as the "unmanned aerial heavy truck," designed strictly according to the airworthiness standards for large cargo drones and the GJB system, forming several significant advantages, redefining the industry's new benchmark:

Efficient Heavy Load: The Changying-8 has a maximum cargo weight of 3.5 tons.

All-Domain Deployment: The Changying-8 has a takeoff and landing distance of less than 500 meters, with low site requirements, allowing deployment in complex terrains such as simple dirt runways, plateaus, and islands.

Ultra-Long Range: The Changying-8 has a maximum range of over 3000 kilometers, capable of flying directly from Beijing to Xinjiang without refueling.

In addition, the Changying-8 drone also features "two strengths, two highs":

The first is its strong payload capacity, with a total takeoff weight of 7 tons, making it the largest unmanned logistics transport aircraft to have its first flight globally.

The second is its high loading efficiency, utilizing a front and rear dual-door through-type integrated design, which is currently the only design of its kind in the world.

There are also mounting points under the wings of the Changying-8, which can later be used for application scenario expansions, such as hanging emergency communication pods and firefighting projectiles for emergency rescue equipment.

Based on the Changying-8, there are plans to develop larger, smarter, and newer drones in the future, including helicopters with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities and compound wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
