Gaza Strip Government Media Office: 262 Media Workers Killed in Israeli Military Operations
Xinhua News Agency, Gaza, May 3 (Reporter Zhao Weihong) The media office of the Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip issued a statement on the 3rd, stating that since the outbreak of the new round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, 262 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed in Israeli military operations.
The statement said that in addition to the 262 journalists who lost their lives, another 50 journalists have been arrested, 3 journalists are missing, and more than 420 journalists have suffered varying degrees of injury, some of whom have been left disabled or forced to undergo amputations.
The statement strongly condemned the Israeli military's systematic attacks on journalists in the Gaza Strip. It stated that these actions by the Israeli military openly violate international humanitarian law, particularly the relevant provisions of the Geneva Conventions regarding the protection of civilians, constituting a war crime.
The statement emphasized that Israel bears full responsibility for the killing and arrest of journalists. Countries providing political and military support to Israel, especially the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, also bear joint responsibility.
The statement paid tribute to the fallen journalists. It said that the truth they defended with their blood will never be covered up, and "the voice of Palestine will always be heard."
