German Chancellor: The United States has approved the sale of "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Germany

[Global Network Report, Reporter Suo Yanqi] According to AFP, German Chancellor Merz stated on Thursday (9th local time) that the United States has approved the sale of "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Germany. Previously, U.S. media reported early last month that the U.S. Department of Defense intended to cancel the plan to sell "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Germany, citing concerns about provoking Russian countermeasures and insufficient U.S. military stockpiles.

In a speech on the 9th at the German Bundestag, Merz announced the news, stating, "During the NATO summit held in Ankara, we reached an agreement with the U.S. government to purchase U.S. 'Tomahawk' missiles and deploy them in Germany."

The "Tomahawk" missile is a U.S.-made subsonic cruise missile with a maximum range of over 2,000 kilometers. In May, the U.S. website Politico reported that Germany hoped to purchase 400 "Tomahawk" missiles.

Additionally, according to a report by the Financial Times earlier this month, Germany has recently engaged with the U.S. to discuss plans to produce more American weapons within Germany to fill the military gap in Europe while also helping the U.S. address domestic production capacity issues.
