German startup TYTAN debuts new rocket-boosted interceptor

Munich-based counter-drone company TYTAN Technologies said it demonstrated a new rocket-boosted interceptor drone to the German Federal Cabinet last month, presenting what the company described as a new category of system built for greater range and speed against aerial threats.

TYTAN said the demonstration took place during the Cabinet’s annual retreat at Schloss Neuhardenberg in Brandenburg. The two-day retreat, held August 25 and 26, brought together Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and other Cabinet members to discuss economic growth, competitiveness and technology policy, according to the German government. TYTAN said Merz, Klingbeil and Pistorius were the first officials to see the new interceptor.

The company said the system uses rocket boosters to extend its range and speed compared with TYTAN’s existing interceptor line, and that it was developed in response to changing drone threats observed in Ukraine. TYTAN has not disclosed the new interceptor’s speed, range, altitude ceiling, or a timeline for testing or delivery.

TYTAN’s existing product line includes the EOS, a short-range multicopter interceptor built for NATO Class I drones weighing up to 150 kg (330 pounds), and the METIS, a long-range fixed-wing interceptor for Class II drones between 150 and 600 kg (330 and 1,320 pounds). The company has said METIS can reach speeds of 350 km/h (217 mph), fly out to 25 km (15.5 miles) and operate at altitudes up to 5,000 meters (16,400 feet). TYTAN’s smaller interceptor drones use computer vision to track and ram hostile drones rather than carrying an explosive warhead, with a reported top speed above 250 km/h (155 mph), a range beyond 15 km (9.3 miles) and a weight around 5 kg (11 pounds).

TYTAN raised €30 million ($34.8 million) in a Series A round in February 2026, co-led by Armira and the NATO Innovation Fund. In January, the company signed a cooperation agreement with German sensor maker HENSOLDT to integrate TYTAN’s interceptors with HENSOLDT’s Elysion Mission Core command-and-control software.

The company said it was founded by two international engineering students two and a half years ago and has grown to around 200 employees. TYTAN opened a serial production line in Bavaria this year with capacity for 3,000 interceptor drones per month, with production activity scheduled to begin in August, CEO Balázs Nagy told Defense News in June.

TYTAN said its interceptors are already deployed in Ukraine, along with Germany and Baltic states listed among its customers. The company said frontline feedback from Ukrainian operators is incorporated into its systems through software updates rather than hardware redesigns, which it said lets it shorten the gap between identifying a capability gap and fielding a fix.

Nagy has said the company’s pricing model is built around cost, telling Defense News in June that TYTAN aims to protect the same airspace “200 times cheaper than with legacy systems.”
