The minehunter "Furda" has set sail from Kiel. In addition, the supply ship "Moselle," currently on a mission in the Aegean Sea, is preparing for a possible deployment.
The German Ministry of Defense stated that the aim is to pre-deploy warships near potential operational areas in case an international naval deployment is required.
The statement also mentioned that to ensure rapid deployment in crisis areas, additional combat forces will be sent in the coming weeks.
However, the German Ministry of Defense reiterated that the three main prerequisites for Germany's participation in operations are: a lasting cessation of hostilities, compliance with international law, and authorization from the German Bundestag.
The statement said: "The federal government is willing to make significant and tangible contributions within the framework of an international coalition to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The goal of our related actions is to ensure the safe passage of this important maritime and trade route in the short term."
In addition to about 40 regular personnel, the "Furda" warship is also equipped with 4 mine clearance divers.
The ship is equipped with mine detection drones and guided underwater unmanned vehicles with cameras and mechanical gripping devices.
