HAVELSAN advances BARKAN UGV family with version 3 at SAHA Expo

Report Content

In an environment where conditions change faster than plans, systems are no longer judged by what they carry, but by how they respond.

At SAHA Expo 2026, HAVELSAN and the Presidency of Defence Industries signed a contract amendment covering the Version 3 configuration of the BARKAN Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV).

First inducted into the Turkish Armed Forces inventory in 2023, BARKAN has evolved through operational use rather than fixed specifications. Each version reflects direct field feedback and changing mission needs.

The platform has followed a clear progression. The first version established a reliable unmanned ground capability. The second expanded its flexibility and integration. With BARKAN 3, the shift becomes more visible what defines the system is no longer only what it carries, but how effectively it responds to changing conditions in the field.

BARKAN 3 is not limited to a single role. It can be configured for different missions, from reconnaissance to direct engagement. Its modular structure allows the integration of a wide range of payloads and mission systems

What emerges is not an expanded feature list, but a system shaped directly by operational needs. The capabilities it offers are not theoretical they reflect what has been required in the field:

  • A modular architecture enabling integration of various weapon systems and mission kits
  • The ability to operate in GNSS-denied environments
  • An AI-supported perception layer combining data from multiple sensors
  • A communication structure designed to maintain continuity under electronic warfare conditions

These are not features added for demonstration they exist because they were needed.

BARKAN 3 is also not designed to operate alone. It is built to function alongside other systems. It supports coordinated operations across swarm-capable autonomous systems, while maintaining human in the loop control for critical decisions.

This approach allows the platform to take part in more complex and multi-layered operational scenarios.

With BARKAN 3, the focus shifts from standalone capabilities to how systems operate together to create real impact in the field. At SAHA Expo, HAVELSAN is not only presenting a platform, but demonstrating how these systems behave and gain meaning when they operate as part of a wider structure.
