India claims successful test launch of new "Agni" missile

According to a report by Reference News Network on May 14, as reported by Latin American News Agency on May 10, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced that India successfully test-fired the new "Agni" missile, which is equipped with a Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) system.

The report states that the Indian Ministry of Defense indicated that the missile underwent a multiple warhead flight test, targeting different objectives distributed across the vast geographical area of the Indian Ocean.

Sources also mentioned that telemetry and tracking were managed by multiple ground and sea stations.

The official statement further noted that these systems tracked the missile's complete flight trajectory from launch to the impact of all warheads on their targets, and the flight data confirmed that the test successfully achieved all mission objectives.

The Indian Ministry of Defense believes that this test once again demonstrates the country's capability to strike multiple strategic targets using a single missile system.

The Indian Ministry of Defense also stated that the missile was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories, with support from various relevant industrial sectors across the country.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Army, and the industrial sector for what he termed a "successful" flight test.
