Intense Gunfire Between Yemeni Government Forces and Houthi Militants, About 28 Killed on Both Sides
Xinhua News Agency, Kuwait City, September 3 (Reporter Yin Zha) Aden news: Yemeni government officials said on the 3rd that fierce exchanges of fire occurred between the Yemeni government forces and Houthi armed groups in multiple locations in the southwestern Taiz province that day, resulting in approximately 28 deaths and dozens of injuries on both sides, with over 900 families displaced.
A local government official told Xinhua reporters that the Houthi armed groups launched an attack on government forces in the rural areas of the western part of the province early that morning, temporarily controlling some areas. The government forces then launched a counterattack, and the fighting continued until the evening. The conflict resulted in the deaths of 13 government soldiers, including at least two officers, and more than 20 others were injured; about 15 Houthi armed personnel were killed, and dozens were injured.
Meanwhile, the government forces in Taiz province issued a statement on the 3rd saying that they killed and injured about 50 Houthi armed personnel, captured some individuals, and shot down three Houthi drones.
As of now, the Houthi armed groups have not released any information regarding the situation in Taiz province. However, the organization released some video footage that evening, showing their drones attacking government positions and military vehicles on multiple fronts, but did not specify the locations and times.
In addition, a person in charge of managing the displaced persons' camp in Taiz province said that the Houthi armed groups attacked local villages and the displaced persons' camp that day, forcing about 917 families to flee their original residences or temporary shelters.
He stated that these families are facing severe shortages of basic living supplies and are in very difficult conditions, calling for urgent intervention from international organizations and humanitarian partners to provide assistance.
On August 25, the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council approved further "deterrent" measures against the Houthi armed groups. In recent weeks, fighting between the Yemeni government forces and Houthi armed groups has intensified on multiple fronts.
