Iran announces maritime losses caused by US and Israeli attacks

On April 13, Xinhua News Agency reported from London (Reporter Gao Wencheng) that Iran disclosed in a document submitted to the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization on the 13th that the military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran have caused serious losses to its maritime transportation and personnel safety, with 39 merchant ships attacked and sunk, 110 traditional fishing boats destroyed, and 20 sailors killed.

The document also revealed multiple instances of destruction targeting Iran's maritime infrastructure and rescue capabilities by the U.S. and Israel, including the sinking of search and rescue vessels, damage to medical ships, damage to vessels in port anchorages, and interference with vessel traffic service systems and navigation systems.

The Iranian side pointed out that these actions seriously violate international law, urging the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization to condemn such attacks and calling for an immediate cessation of all actions against maritime safety infrastructure, medical ships, and civilian shipping.

The document shows that U.S. and Israeli military actions have caused severe losses to Iran, resulting in the deaths of over 3,000 civilians, including 277 students, the destruction of more than 125,000 civilian facilities, and the destruction of 339 hospitals, 857 schools, and 32 universities, with approximately 3 million people displaced, of which 500,000 are homeless.

The Iranian side stated that the current security situation in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters has deteriorated as a direct result of U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iran. At this stage, vessels from countries participating in attacks on Iran are not allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz; other countries' vessels wishing to pass must coordinate with Iranian authorities to ensure navigational safety and reduce risks.

The Iranian side also stated that after the hostile actions conclude, it will coordinate with Oman to establish a security passage framework for the Strait of Hormuz and will report relevant progress to the International Maritime Organization.
