Iran Closes the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Military Claims Strait Passage is "Safe and Unimpeded"
Xinhua News Agency, Washington, June 20 - The U.S. Central Command issued a statement on the 20th, saying that the Strait of Hormuz was "safe and unobstructed" for passage that day, with an increase in commercial shipping traffic.
The statement noted that a total of 55 commercial vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on the 20th, "transporting a large amount of cargo and over 17 million barrels of crude oil to global markets."
Earlier that day, Iranian armed forces stated that due to Israel's ongoing attacks on Lebanon, Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz.
