Iran responds to US military attack, claims to have shot down an MQ-9 drone.

Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, September 1 - The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on the 1st that it has begun to respond to the U.S. attack that day and stated that it shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone.

According to a statement released by the public relations department of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the U.S. military bombed several locations along Iran's southern coast that day, including several civilian facilities. The Revolutionary Guard has begun to respond by using a new type of air defense system to shoot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone.

The statement said this is the 50th U.S. MQ-9 drone shot down by Iran, and the results of subsequent actions will be announced separately.

The statement also said that the U.S. attack will further strengthen Iran's determination to block the Strait of Hormuz and to strike against foreign military forces operating in the strait.

The U.S. Central Command announced on social media on the 1st that the U.S. military began a new round of strikes against targets of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps within Iran at 12:00 PM Eastern Time on the 1st.

The deputy governor responsible for security affairs in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran, stated on the 1st that the U.S. military launched a missile attack on a location near the provincial capital, Ahvaz. According to Iranian media reports, the U.S. military also attacked multiple locations in Hormozgan Province and Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on the 1st that the Muwaffaq Salti Air Force Base in Jordan was subjected to a large-scale attack that day, being hit by ballistic missiles. Iranian missiles struck the air force base on July 17, resulting in the deaths of several U.S. soldiers.
